At the Red Mountain Academy we have chosen to accommodate our student athletes in family homestay environments.
We feel that being part of a family is one of the best ways we can make the transition smooth for students living away from home. Combined with the small and friendly atmosphere of the town itself, we find that homestay families provide a close personal connection. Homestay parents play a vital role in helping us meet the needs of the student athlete.
In all cases we place the student with a family that is also involved in competition or has a good understanding of the unique demands of the sport.
Through the application process we try to match the student with the best homestay family. Applicants fill out a short questionnaire about their likes, dislikes and preferences (pets, younger children, food preferences…). This serves as the initial basis for selecting the family. From the outset, expectations are reviewed with both the homestay family and the participant. Suitability of homestays is monitored throughout the year with homestay parents in contact with Academy staff.
